Yesterday, despite the fact that it was NINETY ZILLION DEGREES, I went on another hike — this time to the Delaware River Gap, which is not in Delaware but in New Jersey. A few pictures within:
We had a really big crowd for this hike, despite the heat, so I never felt remotely alone:
We stopped for lunch right by the river itself.
By that time I was already rather hot and sweaty, and I wanted badly to do some swimming. (My suit was in my backpack for just such an occasion.) But getting to the riverbank required slip-sliding down quite a steep slope; I didn’t really feel like making my way back up, changing, putting my hiking boots back on, slip sliding down again, and then having to repeat the whole performance 20 minutes later. Plus — you know, the area did not have a whole lot of ground cover, and I didn’t particularly feel like flashing the others.
Across the river, some children were swimming, along with their dog, which was barking happily as it splashed in and out of the water. River + kids = best dog day ever.
The scenery was worth hiking in the heat:
All the same, I hope it’s cooler next time.
And hey, if you don’t have me friended on MySpace, and I haven’t gotten to you yet on my vampire-fan-friending spree, feel free to add!
Finally, a more important call for help: counteragent‘s little sister-in-law, Jenny, is very sick. It would be so wonderful if you could take a quick moment (just like 3 minutes) to check out her family’s blog (http://jenjensfamily.blogspot.com/) and see if you think you might know anyone like Jenny. They are looking for “comparables” (people who have similar symptoms) that may have had success with treatments Jenny’s docs haven’t yet tried. They would also really appreciate it if you post about this on your blog and thus help them spread the word. Jenny is 14 and also a big vampire fan; she really needs help solving this mystery. So take a look and spread the word.
Thank you so much for the announcement. Vampire fans unite!
What a beautiful venue for a hike. I’m impressed with your dedication in the face of sweltering heat!
Oh, absolutely gorgeous hike. I’ve been on… two? three? hikes in my life, both in Upstate NY, and they looked a lot like that. Only with the added bonus of dangerous rocks and an abandoned hotel that I almost died in. Good times.
That place reminded me of Forks (except for the nice weather).
I hope everything turns out well for Jenny!
What gorgeous pictures! I helped a friend (a very very good friend whom I love dearly) move into her 4th Floor Walkup in the heat yesterday.
I feel so bad for Jenny. I don’t know of anything but I will pass along the msg to friends to see if they know of anything.
Thank you for passing it along!
Happy Birthday, and did you already get several links to Friday’s NYT article on the Delaware Water Gap?
