Intense music you love? I want to hear it!

Posted on November 13, 2013

First of all, congrats to the winner of the ARC of STEADFASTL Way to go, Georgia! But there are more books to be had, and winning has never been easier. All you have to tell me is what music I should be listening to these days.

Sound too good to be true? It isn’t. Basically, I’m putting together new book soundtracks, which means I need new songs. I tend to like alternative and electronic music, but have pretty eclectic tastes. Some of the songs on my current “just fun” playlist include:

“What I Wouldn’t Do” by Serena Ryder

“Signs” by Bloc Party

“Generals,” the Mynabirds

“Future Starts Slow,” the Kills

“I’ll Follow You” by Shinedown

“Jump In The Pool” by Friendly Fires

And lots of MSMR, Lorde, Emeli Sande, and Natalia Kills. Plus I don’t understand why Florence + The Machine can’t release an album at least once a month. I tend to really love Florence Welch’s intense, dramatic sound (which I hear a bit in MSMR and Bat For Lashes) and would especially love more in that vein.

Any suggestions for me based on those, or just in general? Tell me what you love? I’ll pick one winner at random on Wednesday, Nov. 20, and they’ll receive both CJ Lyon’s BROKEN and Kathleen Peacock’s THORNHILL! I’ll ship to anyone anywhere, so enter wherever you’re from. Be sure your entry includes a way for me to contact you! I’d rather you posted your entries here to this blog.

OK, hit me with some songs!

I actually love Marina and the Diamonds! So far my favorite of hers is “Shampain.” What are your favorite songs of hers?

  2. Tracey

Two albums I listen to when I’m writing are:
    Real Life by Evermore
The Ghost Who Walks by Karen Elson
It’s the unique vocals and calming, ethereal music that I love. They have some stellar songs on them and you can listen to them in full and not be disappointed by any of the tracks. They are my go-to albums when everything else just doesn’t cut it 😉

BASTILLE. https://soundcloud.com/bastilleuk I love the crap out of Bastille. They have original stuff that’s great and they have some AMAZING remixes of great things like No Scrubs and Rhythm is a Dancer. Plus, they’re a-freaking-dorable.

Also, Chvrches, the1975, RAC, The Colourist, American Authors, Smallpools, The Neighbourhood (in a CAR. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTmBN4SKgJE ). And have some The Boxer Rebellion. https://soundcloud.com/theboxerrebellion/diamonds

Hi again! You should listen ” La Vie in rose” from Louis Armstrong or if you want more movement you should try “A light that never comes” from Linkin Park or my favourite one these days: “Un día de sol” from Los Claxons. [with the las one you could practice your spanish, but includes english].

    • claudia

LOVE the Klaxons and Louie Armstrong. Will check out this Linkin Park song!

I personally have been getting into this band called “Kitten”. they have a weird, unique sound that my mother cannot stand but I love. Ummm, I love their song “Kitten with a Whip”–but that could just be me.

I also like hellogoodbye, but they are more pop-y music.

WOW. Awesome list! I am only familiar with a handful of these, so now I have TONS to search through. 😀 Thanks!

  7. Tenisha

I’m addicted to Matt Corby’s music at the moment. Especially his song Brother. Plus he’s an Aussie which makes him even cooler!

    • Tenisha

Also Theo James (the guy who plays Four in Divergent) has some pretty good original songs that he sings on his youtube account, shere khan.

Hmm… as for me, though I don’t have any specific song by an artist to pinpoint, I do a have few bands and singers that I love listening to, some for a very long time, some that I discovered in the past year.
Those that I listen to a lot are Metric, Muse, Coldplay, Ellie Goulding (she’s really good live!), Florence + the Machine, Bat for Lashes, Kate Nash, Lily Allen, Lykke Li, Within Temptation (it’s a Dutch band, really good!), Tarja Turunen, A Fine Frenzy, Of Monsters and Men, Mumford and Sons, Arcade Fire.
    Hope it will help!
